Thierry Mugler
Creative Conceptor

"I used fashion to express myself as much as I could. But at some point, it was not enough."

From his formative years as a ballet dancer at the Opera du Rhin and studies at Ecole Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Frenchman Manfred Thierry Mugler’s career in fashion has been on of the most influential of the 20th century and has encompassed the worlds of fashion, design photography, stage set designs and choreography to perfume creator.

Designing under the Thierry Mugler label since 1973 until he sold a majority share to the Clarins Group in 2003, his style is instantly recognizable: structured elegance, accentuated shoulders. Mugler went on from this point to create a very identifiable style. He designed a new feminine silhouette where shapes and curves are accentuated by the strictness of the cut.

"The prophet of Futurism", as he has been referred to, Thierry Mugler is an instinctive designer who never looks for inspiration. According to Thierry Mugler, "intellect is the servant of the spirit." He strongly feels that his clothing is modernistic and not futuristic. Clothes of today should have nothing to do with the past. They should create elegance with simple form and structure and add defined shape to the body, volume, form and simplicity. His clothing attracts a woman of strength and élan. Mugler usually designs 2-piece outfits with a jacket feature, full sleeves, masculine cuts, emphasizing the waist and hips to create a perfect body. He often uses solid colours as a sculptor would. He often uses pointed angles on collars, hems, sleeves, waist and hips. He does use a lot of prints but at times uses patches of leather. He uses less of accessories and headgear. He tries to create drama into his clothing but usually the devil features, example gelled hair in the shape of horns. Mugler also designs clothes for men but often uses bright colours for them like orange, yellow, etc. which is unusual for men's clothing. Fabrics: Jersey, vinyl, Lycra, Gingham and Leather are his favourites.

Thierry Mugler always had a comprehensive vision. Never beginning to create before carefully studying the surrounding elements (light, setting…), he imbues every design with a style that is at once classic, futuristic, sensitive and uniquely his own. This style, combined with a keen sense of the practical and with powerful brand codes, leads him to bring an artistic touch to so many areas. "When one has found a method of self-expression, one evolves with it! I used fashion to express myself as much as I could. But at some point, it was not enough. Designing hotels, residential and entertainment projects is a natural extension of my interests. I am delighted to be working with Jean-Paul and am impressed with his work and his approach to design. We intend to create projects that express unique stories, add value to Developers and above all, inspire and elevate the human spirit."

In 2017, Jean-Paul Cassia and Manfred Thierry Mugler decided to create a real estate design signature partnership with the intent of crafting projects and destinations that combine the power of Manfred’s creative genius with Jean-Paul’s ability to conceive and orchestrate projects that become "stage sets for the great adventures of life". Poised for the creation of boutique hotels and exceptional homes under the "MUGLER HOTELS, RESORTS & RESIDENCES" signature, the partnership will harness Manfred's talent and stellar experience as a French director, fashion designer, photographer, perfume creator and stage & costume designer in the form of signature designs that add exceptional value to real estate developers, guests, residents and investors alike.
